Service Description

Pregnancy massage, also known as prenatal massage, is a therapeutic bodywork specifically tailored to the needs of pregnant women. This type of massage focuses on relieving the common discomforts associated with pregnancy, such as back pain, swollen legs, and fatigue. The techniques used in pregnancy massage are gentle and adapted to ensure the safety and comfort of both the mother and the unborn baby. Benefits Pain Relief: Alleviates muscle aches, joint pain, and back pain commonly experienced during pregnancy. Reduced Swelling: Helps reduce oedema (swelling) in the legs and feet by improving circulation and lymphatic drainage. Stress and Anxiety Reduction: Promotes relaxation and reduces stress and anxiety levels, which can benefit both the mother and the baby. Improved Sleep: Enhances sleep quality by reducing stress and physical discomfort. Better Circulation: Improves blood flow, which can help reduce pregnancy-related swelling and improve nutrient delivery to the baby. Hormonal Regulation: Can help regulate hormone levels, potentially reducing symptoms such as mood swings. Enhanced Mood and Well-being: Increases the release of endorphins, promoting a sense of well-being and emotional balance. Preparation for Labour: Helps relax and soften muscles, potentially aiding in the labour and delivery process. How it works During a pregnancy massage, the therapist uses specialised techniques and positions to ensure the comfort and safety of the pregnant woman. This often includes side-lying positions with supportive cushions or bolsters to relieve pressure on the abdomen and lower back. The therapist may use gentle, flowing strokes and light pressure to address areas of tension and discomfort. Techniques such as effleurage (long, gliding strokes), petrissage (kneading), and gentle stretching are commonly used. The therapist avoids deep pressure and certain areas, such as the abdomen, to ensure safety. Sessions are customized to address the specific needs and concerns of the pregnant woman at various stages of her pregnancy.
